Manipulated Organics
The symbols of the mind are rarely understood and often unique to the individual. Yet, there are objects, people, places, that ride the subconscious wave of all cultures. A simple blossom is one of these profoundly powerful objects. With one glance, one scent, certain things are understood: fertility, fragility, beauty. I choose flowers to represent me in these self-portraits. Their abstract simplicity and beauty are a powerful symbol, and represent the human spirit in a way that is quite different than depictions of bones and flesh. It is the spiritual conflicts within my own life that intrigue me and beg for exploration and explanation. The themes for these photographs bubble up on their own and reveal to me the conflicts of my own heart; balance, transformation, the secret self, and the merging of art and logic.
